Southern team racers place second at Hinman Masters |

NEWPORT, R.I. - The thirteenth edition of New York Yacht Club's annual Team Race for The Hinman Masters' Invitational Trophy was held at NYYC’s Harbour Court on August 17, 18 and 19 with teams representing ten clubs. Each boat must include a skipper at least 45 years of age and crew members must at least 40 years of age. The regatta is sailed in NYYC’s fleet of Sonars. After two round robins of 45 races each, the fleet was split into the Championship Gold fleet, comprised of the highest scoring six teams, and a Silver fleet of the remaining four teams. Teams qualifying for the Gold fleet were Eastern, Newport Harbor, Noroton, St. Francis, Southern and Texas Corinthian. The championship round robin saw very aggressive team racing with the winning combination changing at least twice in each race. After the 15 race Gold Fleet round robin was completed, St. Francis Yacht Club had edged out Southern Yacht Club by just half a point for the Championship! Newport Harbor Yacht Club was awarded the third place finish. |
